Alex the Intern, reflection of my semester internship!

The below message was written by "Alex the Intern", Alex Haney, a Goshen High School Senior about his internship with the Goshen Chamber this past semester. We sincerely appreciate all the help and work Alex did for us here at the Chamber, and wish him the best of luck on his future plans....
"Going into this internship, I wasn't really sure what to expect. I had no experience in the business world. I said that was what I wanted to go to college for but I wasn't 100% sold on the idea of being a business major. After this semester I have learned a variety of aspects that go on here at the Chamber of Commerce. I really enjoyed coming to my internship every Wednesday and Friday and learning about the different events that the Chamber organized and even getting to attend a few of them such as the Annual Meeting and the Salvation Army pancake breakfast. I also really enjoyed sitting in on the Sound of the Economy meetings. It was always an enlightening conversation and it was always interesting to hear the different points of view on the question from the different areas of business. The main thing I learned during this semester long internship is the importance of making Goshen an outstanding business environment where outside businesses want to locate and existing businesses can grow. Not only have I had the opportunity of learning about the business world from the Chamber's point of view, I had the opportunity to take a field trip over to the WSBT studios over in Mishawaka and take a tour of the newly renovated building. I had the chance to learn what goes into making a commercial and what the business world is like from the advertising side of things. After this semester I have learned that I would like to pursue a career in the business department and I plan to do so after finishing my senior year at Goshen High School. After High School I plan to attend Ball State University as a marketing major. I am thankful for what the Chamber for providing me with this opportunity and for what they have taught me throughout this last semester. I truly believe that this internship has enhanced my education as well as answered my question of what I want to study in college." Written by: Alex Haney, Goshen High School Senior

Shop Talk wrap up from KeyBank

Well, the 2013 Goshen Chamber calendar year was kicked off in high fashion last night as the first Shop Talk was held at KeyBank in downtown Goshen. The Goshen Chamber would like to sincerely thank everyone at KeyBank for their hospitality towards their fellow Chamber Members.
A great idea from the staff at KeyBank for their puzzle networking game. As Chamber Members checked in, each drew a piece of a cutout person. The game was to work the room and network with everyone and try to put together a complete person. Congratulations to Shelley Pulaski of Horizon Bank; Chris Smith of Interra Credit Union; and Steve DePue of Artic Clear Products for being the first complete person at Shop Talk.
Keep an eye out for Chamber events coming up and we hope to see you there! Shop Talk is the primere networking event in the area and the best way to develop your personal and professional networks.
